Meeting Time: 4:30 PM | Location: Your hotel in Ban Lung, Ratanakiri

Meet your guide for a full briefing on the upcoming trek, covering what to expect, safety guidelines, and essential gear. This is a great opportunity to ask any last-minute questions before heading into the jungle.

Estimated Trekking Distance: 3–5 km
Elevation Gain: 50–100 m

Your jungle adventure begins with a morning visit to Banlung market to purchase fresh supplies alongside your local ranger guide. Depart Banlung around 9:30 AM by motorbike or 4WD vehicle and head north to Taveng District. At 11:00 AM, board a small boat to cross the scenic Se San River, arriving at Tumpoun Toch Village, home to the indigenous Brau people. After exploring the village and learning about their unique culture, continue with a short trek into the forest where you’ll set up camp for the night under the jungle canopy.

Estimated Trekking Distance: 10–12 km
Elevation Gain: 300–400 m

Awaken to the sounds of gibbons echoing through the trees. After breakfast, begin a challenging hike along the “Commander Trail,” an old path leading deep into the heart of the national park. Pass through dense rainforest, crossing creeks and rocky terrain. The day ends near a jungle stream, where you'll set up camp surrounded by nature. Wildlife sightings are most likely in the early morning or late evening — keep your eyes open for sambar deer, wild pigs, Great Hornbills, and even elusive bear species.

Estimated Trekking Distance: 12–15 km
Elevation Gain: 200–300 m

Today’s journey takes you toward the legendary Veal Thom Grasslands. As you leave the denser forest behind, the terrain gradually opens up to stunning panoramic views. This area is known as a prime wildlife corridor, and lucky trekkers may encounter rare species like Douc Langurs or even a Gaur — an endangered wild forest cow. Camp is set up near the edge of the grassland, offering a peaceful and expansive view of the surrounding landscape.

Estimated Trekking Distance: 8–10 km
Elevation Gain: 100–200 m

Spend a full day exploring the vast Veal Thom area. This open grassland is home to many species that prefer less forested environments. Your guide will lead you on wildlife spotting hikes at sunrise and sunset — the best times to see gibbons, hornbills, and deer. Learn about the park's ecology, conservation efforts, and local folklore as you trek across this unique and rare landscape in Cambodia.

Estimated Trekking Distance: 8–10 km
Elevation Gain: 100–150 m

Another day in Veal Thom gives you a deeper appreciation for this untouched wilderness. Explore new sections of the grassland, search for animal tracks, and maybe even enjoy a picnic lunch beside a stream or viewpoint. In the evening, return to your base camp for one last night under the stars in the highlands of Cambodia.

Estimated Trekking Distance: 10–12 km
Elevation Gain: 200–250 m

Bid farewell to the grasslands as you begin your return journey through the thick forest. This part of the trail may follow a different route back, offering fresh terrain and new ecosystems to explore. Camp in the jungle near a water source, enjoying the peaceful sound of the forest at night.

Estimated Trekking Distance: 6–8 km
Elevation Gain: 150–200 m (mostly descent)

After an early breakfast, begin the final leg of your jungle trek, heading toward Taveng District. Once there, enjoy a local lunch before returning to Banlung by motorbike or vehicle, completing your incredible week-long journey into Virachey’s wilderness.
