3-Day Virachey National Park Encounter Trek

Your adventure begins at 8:30 AM with a drive to Kachon village, about 1.5 hours away. From here, you’ll board a boat for a peaceful 50-minute ride along the Sesan River, taking in the lush scenery as you make your way to a remote Kachoch ethnic minority village.

After meeting your local ranger, set off on a trek through rice fields, bamboo groves, and dense jungle paths. Along the way, stop for a picnic lunch at a traditional farmhouse.

The afternoon trek leads to a hidden 40-meter waterfall—an ideal spot for a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters. As the day winds down, set up camp near the waterfall, enjoy a warm meal by the campfire, and sleep under the stars in a hammock with a mosquito net.

Wake up to the sounds of nature and enjoy a simple jungle breakfast with fresh coffee or tea. Then, continue trekking through thick, untouched forest, keeping an eye out for wildlife and learning about traditional medicinal plants from your guide.

At midday, pause for a scenic lunch by a stream before choosing your preferred overnight experience:

Option 1: Jungle Camp – Venture deeper into the forest for another night of wilderness camping under the stars.

Option 2: Kachoch Homestay – Trek to a Kachoch village, where you’ll share a meal with your hosts, sample homemade rice wine, and experience their way of life firsthand.

Route: Kachoch Village – Burial Grounds – Yeak Loam Crater Lake – Ban Lung

If you camped in the jungle, you’ll trek to the Kachoch village in the morning. Here, you’ll witness daily village life—watch locals weave baskets, process natural resources, and prepare food using traditional methods.

A highlight of the day is a visit to the village’s unique burial grounds, where wooden carvings represent the deceased in a sacred display of cultural heritage.

After a hearty local-style lunch, journey back to Kachon village by boat before driving to Yeak Loam Crater Lake. This stunning volcanic lake, encircled by dense jungle, is the perfect place to unwind with a refreshing swim before heading back to Ban Lung.
