In the morning, you will depart from Stung Treng and drive about an hour north to a small riverside village. From here, a boat will take you along the Mekong River, passing nomadic communities and rocky riverbanks.
As you travel upstream, you’ll reach a secluded waterfall, where you can explore the area on foot. Along the way, you’ll learn about traditional medicinal plants used by local villagers for treating malaria, fever, and digestive issues.
Lunch will be served at Hang Khone, a historic site that was once a French colonial ferry port and railway station, used for transporting goods around the powerful Mekong Falls.
In the afternoon, the journey continues by boat downstream to Preah Rumkel, a peaceful riverside village. Depending on the water level and weather conditions, you will either camp on a remote island or stay with a local family in a traditional homestay.
